Windhoek, Feb. 22 — ICT pioneer MultiChoice Namibia will offer its support to the tourism industry through short documentary-style videos that will be shot in and around the Sperrgebiet area. This was announced at the Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN)’s 2022 Tourism Congress which took place in Lüderitz on 18 February.
With the toll that Covid-19 has taken on the tourism industry in the country, MultiChoice Namibia has taken the initiative to use the power of storytelling to further promote Namibia as a prime destination for tourists.
“Our DStv Business team and HAN have recognized an opportunity to create a smart partnership that will advance both our industries and improve all respective stakeholders,” said Roger Gertze, Managing Director of MultiChoice Namibia.
“These videos will help us enhance our role as a responsible and sustainable corporate citizen as we are using local, Namibian production teams to capture the essence of the Sperrgebiet area – in collaboration with HAN and the Ministry of Environment, Forestry & Tourism (MEFT).”
MultiChoice Namibia further mentioned that DStv Business has been providing Covid relief to various businesses by providing tailor-made commercial packages that feature world-class content. In addition to this, MultiChoice touched on its stance against piracy and encouraged stakeholders to stand together to “unlock new horizons”.
“Sometimes it takes more than one key, namely a whole team to unlock treasures,” said HAN chief executive officer, Gitta Paetzold. “HAN’s Congress did just that: Bringing together the public and private sector, mining and tourism sector and the media, to help unlock new horizons and tell the story of Namibia’s endless opportunities.”
Teofilus Nghitila – Executive Director at the MEFT, also shared words of wisdom during the HAN Gala dinner at Kolmanskop during the weekend of the conference: “The history of this part of southern Africa makes Namibia one of the most sought-after destinations for tourists,” he mentioned. “The time has come for Namibia to unlock new horizons in this part of the world to allow this sector – a sector that tells the nation a story of few other industries and offers potential for economic growth – opportunities to the Namibian people and all walks of life.”
The videos will be available for viewing purposes on MultiChoice Namibia’s YouTube page as well as the DStv and GOtv social media platforms.
