DIVUNDU, April 25 — New Poison football club a team from Kangorombwe village 205 km East of Rundu in Mukwe constituency Kavango East is the new champion of NFA MTC Aweh Cup after beating favourite Gumma City of Ndonga linena constituency at the final this afternoon.
New Poison now also qualify to the elite 32 teams of NFA MTC Aweh Cup and was also awarded N$ 20 000 while run – up Gumma City pocketed N$ 10 000.
The 18 years old goal keeper of the team Thighuru Patrick was praised as the hero of the team by vice chaiperson of New Poison FC Peter Dikuwa.
“I single out our goal keeper because through out this tournament three (3) times we won it by penalties and goal keeper was always our saviour” Dikuwa said.
Dikuwa also said that “the time has come for entire Kavango East region to rally behind New Poison FC now as they are the only team which will represent the region in their division.”
While tactical coach of the team John Moyo single out his defending midfielder and captain of the team George Mbambangandu as the key player who sailed them through to the final as he also scored two crucial goals in the process.
Dinyando Muruti number 6 and Mushongo Alexander number 14 the two strikers also made their own names in Rundu town with deadly combination and scoring goals as they lead their team to beat Kavango United,Rengo Cosmos,Young Elephant,Unam until Gumma city at the final today.
“In overall majority of my players performed very well throughout the tournament and I had strong midfield too through Felix Muyevhu (8) and Michael Katunda (13) who were difficult to pass through” coach Moyo continued praising his players.
Both Dikuwa and Moyo also showered praises on the local retired teacher Werner Makeva Katunda for his unwavering support to the team including Dikuwa Thiremo their transport committee member.
