Kwedhi backs Mighty Gunners to win NPL

OTJIWARONGO, 24 AUG  – Brigadier-General Ambrosius Kushomwa Kwedhi of the fourth Artillery Brigade of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) on Thursday urged the players of the Mighty Gunners Football Club to work hard and win the 2018/2019 Namibia Premier League (NPL).
The Mighty Gunners, an Otjiwarongo-based team comprised mainly of members of the NDF, finished third in the 2017/18 NPL season.
Kwedhi was speaking at the official launch of the preparations of the club’s 2018/19 season which is set to kick off in September.
He said it feels good to be associated with the Mighty Gunners, who play in the top league in the country.
“With community support and involvement, I have no doubt that the Mighty Gunners will be crowned champions of the NPL next year,” he said.
The Otjiwarongo-based team also finished in the runners-up spot in the 2017 Debmarine Cup.
“Due to the economic situation in the country, administration of the club has become hard for the team,” he added.
Kwedhi then called on the business community, companies and local authorities in the Otjozondjupa Region to support the club financially and physical attendance during the live games.
He also called on the residents of the Otjozondjupa Region with good football ideas to come on board and assist the team on how to manage the club and how best to generate funds for it.
Mighty Gunners’ club captain, John Ndjalo, at the same occasion, said the players started training on Monday in preparation for the 2018/2019 NPL season. – NAMPA
