KEETMANSHOOP, 02 JUL – A 20-year-old man who allegedly murdered a 45-year-old man here on Friday made his first appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The accused, Richard Swarts appeared before Magistrate Frans Anderson, who did not grant him bail owing to the fact that investigations in the case are at an early and sensitive stage.
Anderson postponed the case to 29 August 2018 for further police investigations and to afford the accused time to apply for Legal Aid.
The State was represented by Atulala Shikalepo.
Swarts remains in custody at the police holding cells at Keetmanshoop until his next court appearance.
The Namibian Police Force’s //Kharas Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Monday Swarts allegedly stabbed Moses Diba in the chest, causing his death.
“The accused allegedly grabbed the knife from the deceased, who was busy assaulting his ex-girlfriend, and stabbed Diba, who died on the spot,” Mubebo said.
According to Mubebo, the incident occurred at a bottle store in the Noordhoek residential area.
The suspect fled the scene and was arrested on Sunday.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed and police investigations continues.
