Windhoek, 11 August- The kingdom of the Netherlands today donated 75 000 AstraZeneca vaccines to the government of the Republic of Namibia. In June, Namibia ran out of AstraZeneca stock which resulted in about 50 000 Namibians waiting for their second jab.
Today the Ministry of health and social services has received AstraZeneca vaccines through the EU civil protection mechanism from the Netherlands. The Donation has also come with medical supplies from Norway.
The hand over of the Vaccines was done by Non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands, H.E. Mr. Han Peters and Radoslaw Rokita, Charge d’ Affaires and received by the Deputy prime minister and minister of international relations and cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Dr. Peya Mushelenga Minister of Information and Communication Technology.
60-80% of the population is yet to be vaccinated to reach herd immunity and to be better armed against Covid-19.
Deputy prime minister and Minister of International relations and cooperation Netumbo-Nandi Ndeitwa said “that the vaccines received will be used to vaccinate about 75 000 People as the country has not yet vaccinated more than 5% of the population.
