Women hit by staff transit vehicle identified

MARIENTAL, 04 JULY – The Namibian Police in the Hardap Region on Tuesday released the names of the two elderly women hit by a staff transit vehicle of Charney Spar on Friday, while crossing the street.
Hardap Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay said the deceased women were identified as 66-year-old Magdalena Markus and 54-year-old Josefina Swartbooi.
The Friday incident happened at about 14h45 on the Koichas Road in the Aimablaagte residential area.
Clay confirmed to Nampa on Saturday that Markus was killed instantly, while Swartbooi was rushed to the Mariental State Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries.
A culpable homicide case has been opened against the 46-year-old driver of the minibus.
Clay told Nampa the docket has been sent to the Prosecutor General (PG)’s office for a decision.
“The docket has been sent to the PG’s office to give direction on how the case will be dealt with,” he said, adding that the driver was not arrested and they are awaiting the PG decision on the case.
