WINDHOEK, 17 JUN – Ramblers Football Club pushed Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) to the brink of relegation after hammering their neighbours 5-2 in the ‘German derby’ played on Sunday in the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) match.
The match played at Ramblers Stadium in Windhoek saw SKW coached by four-time league winner with Black Africa, who also ended Tigers’ 30-year drought of winning the Namibia Premier League, Brian Isaacs.
SKW on four points needed to win the match to have a chance of survival and hope that Rebels in fifth place would drop points.
SKW had a good game plan of catching Rammies, as Ramblers are also known, on the break but their opponents sustained the pressure and scored trough the boots of Namibia Under-20 national team striker Siyabonga Ramakhutla assisted by Desmond Isaaks.
The goal by Rammies broke the fighting spirit SKW had in them and their game plan collapsed.
Rammies saw SKW players were dispirited and went in search for the second goal, which eventually came against the run of play after Isaaks with his second goal assist, provided for Enrico Swartz to score his first goal of the match to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Just before halftime, Jurgen van der Byl provided for Fanuel Paulinus who dully obliged and scored the third goal of Rammies to go into half time with a 3-0 lead.
SKW came out guns blazing and pushed for a goal to have a chance of an upset and got on the scoresheet at the hour mark with Horacio Rietz reducing the deficit to 3-1.
Rammies pushed their players in search for a goal to kill off the game and the move eventually paid off with Swartz converting a penalty after a foul by SKW in the box for his second goal. The score was now 4-1 in favour of Rammies.
Soon thereafter, a player from SKW received his marching orders for a second bookable offence. Rammies capitalised on the numerical advantage and made it 5-1 through a screamer from Swartz, who unleashed a fierce shot from outside the box for his hat trick.
Deep into the second half, George Hummel with a solo effort got on the score sheet for a consolation for his team, bringing the final score to 5-2 in favour of Ramblers.
In other Inland Stream matches played on Saturday, title chasing Young Brazilians were held to a goalless draw in Keetmanshoop by Try Again, while in Windhoek at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, Rebels and Windhoek United also played out a goalless draw.
