Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor distributes food hampers
OTJIWARONGO, 05 DEC – Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor, Julius Neumbo on Tuesday distributed food and sewing machines to local community members as part of the belated commemoration of World Aids Day.
Neumbo said the donations were bought with his personal annual entertainment allowance as chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council.
“My friends from Germany also contributed immensely towards the purchasing of these goods we have donated here today,” he said.
The councilor said it is regrettable for him to watch people on HIV/Aids treatment losing their lives due to lack of food and care.
“I therefore decided to distribute these food hampers and four sewing machines to some of our community members so that they can start to make a living and give good care to their family members on treatment,” he said.
Neumbo then urged Namibians on HIV/Aids treatment to not stop taking their medications and to also take it correctly to prolong their lives.
He further spoke out against having multiple sexual partners, saying it is a “bad and dangerous” habit.
Neumbo distributed food hampers, a Kudu carcass, tinned fish, maize meal, sugar, cooking oil, four sewing machines, overlockers and various sewing materials valued at over N$103 000.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Batseba Ndjoze thanked Neumbo for the gesture.
“As a group of 10 women we plan to set up a clothing production at the NDC business park in Otjiwarongo, where we will start sewing school uniforms by January 2019,” she said.
World Aids Day is commemorated annually on 01 December.
This year marked the 30th anniversary of the commemoration of World Aids Day.
