Windhoek, Dec. 10 – A team of 88 dedicated staff members from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) proudly represented the institution at the 23rd Southern African Universities Staff Sports Association (SAUSSA) Games, held in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 1 to 6 December 2024.
NUST athletes excelled in various sports, securing top positions in several disciplines. The chess team showcased exceptional strategic skills, clinching the first-place trophy. The netball and women’s tennis teams also made significant contributions, earning third-place finishes in their respective categories.
Ms. Lutopu Khoa, a member of the NUST chess team, highlighted the team’s underdog status and their determination to prove themselves against tough competition. She emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and camaraderie, noting the valuable experiences gained from interacting with athletes from other universities.
Mr. Gabriel Mbokoma, Chairperson of the NUST Staff Sport and Social Club (NSSSC), expressed pride in the team’s performance and the positive impact of the SAUSSA Games. He emphasized the event’s role in fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and overall well-being among staff members.
NUST’s participation in the SAUSSA Games aligns with the university’s commitment to promoting a healthy work-life balance and strengthening regional partnerships. The institution extends its gratitude to the organizers, Zimbabwe Open University, and fellow competitors for a successful event.
