WINDHOEK, JULY 17 – After allegations made the rounds on social media questioning the validity of MTCs official claims that Nigerian musician Davido will be performing at MTCs 081EVERY1FEST, MTC Chief Human Capital Tim Ekandjo allayed the fears and assured the public that nothing had changed, emphasising that Davido will still perform as he had been booked by the mobile telecommunications giant.
Said Ekandjo: “Taking note of the posters that have been circulating of Davido having being booked at some show there in the U.S., we would obviously like to assure the public that he is booked for the 081EVERY1FEST… so we are not worried about that at all.”
This was after social media was abuzz following the emergence of a poster with Davido’s face as one of the performers of One Africa Music Fest slated for 11 August at Ford Amphitheatre, Coney Island, Brooklyn, NewYork City, implying Davido was scheduled to perform at that event.
The 081EVERY1FEST is scheduled to take place in Windhoek at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on 11 August, thus causing an uproar on social media, as concerned fans whom had already purchased tickets became uneasy, thinking they had been duped that their ‘favourite’ star was scheduled to perform in New York as opposed to the Namibian historic event.
Asked of the financial implications if Davido was not to show up, Ekandjo said Davido was sure to come, alluding to a video the Nigerian artist in which he guaranteed his availability for the festival.
“He is definitely coming! You saw the video drop. I don’t want to speak on his behalf, and therefore he will speak to the Namibian fans himself to assure them. It is all systems go. His flight tickets are booked. We are not worried at all,” said Ekandjo.
MTC also announced that Coca Cola purchased two donation tickets to the total value of N$20 000.00 of which each cost N$ 10 0000.00 at a press conference earlier today.
Ekandjo also clarified the issue surrounding VIP tickets after receiving numerous inquiries. Only 200 VIP tickets are up for grabs, each costing N$1000.00, and only available at web tickets since no tickets will be sold at the venue.
Ekandjo further explained that due to lack of parking space on the VIP area, only one car per VIP will be allowed entrance to the parking.
The international roaster scheduled to perform includes Davido, Runtown, Jah Prayzah, Heavy K and Busiswa and the local roaster includes a galore of Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) winners namely, Gazza, Kalux, Oteya, KP Illest, Sally Boss Madam, Adora, One Blood, PDK, Afroberries and 4×4 Too Much Power.
