Mountain Rangers record 12 goals in two matches

REHOBOTH, 14 MAY  – Mountain Rangers Football Club from Rosh Pinah scored 12 goals against Youngsters and Atlantic Stars from Lüderitz over the weekend
On Saturday, Youngsters opened the scoring in the 25th minute through the boot of tricky Aldrin Saunders before Mutagob Mooki Hikuam equalised before the break.
Rangers took the game to Youngsters and pressed for a goal that eventually came in the 55th minute through Uerikandoma ‘General’ Katjihongua, extending their score to 2-1.
Youngsters were still trying to regroup when Maquin Klaaste picked up a loose ball in Youngsters’ half in the 60th minute, and burst through the midfield before unleashing a scorcher in the right top corner of their opponents’ goal to make it 3-1.
Klaas ‘Flowerinho’ Blom, team manager of ‘Happy Green’ as Mountain Rangers is famously known, on Saturday said the game was hard but Rangers used their home advantage to the fullest.
“We had a tough game in the sense that it was our first game of the league. We postponed our first two rounds due to logistical issues and came up against a team that has played more matches than us and was fitter than us,” Blom noted.
He said now that the league is in full swing they will play to defend their title.
“We will fight hard and defend our title. We are aiming to play in the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) next season,” Blom said.
On Sunday, Rangers annihilated Atlantic Stars 9-3 in Round 4 through goals by Katjihongua, Hikuam, Frans Vries, Norman Engelbrecht, Goraine Boois, with Herman Megameno and Andrew Mutumaswana both scoring a brace.
Mountain Rangers won the Coastal Stream for a record eighth time in 2016, and defeated Inland Stream winners, Orange Rangers, in the regional play-off final.
They, however, could not make it past the promotion play-offs of the SSFD after falling short in the group stages through defeats by Northern Stars and Sport Klub Windhoek.
