Koës couple murder case postponed to November

KEETMANSHOOP, 28 AUG – Three men accused of allegedly murdered an elderly couple at a farm near Koës earlier this year, will return to court in November to plea to the charges against them.
Julius Arndt, Andries Afrikaner and Johannes Christiaan are accused of murdering Giel and Sarie Botma on their farm on 02 February 2018.
They made their fourth appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Thursday before Magistrate Melissa Mungunda, who postponed their case to 26 November 2018 for plea and for final police investigations.
Court documents seen by Nampa on Tuesday indicate that State Prosecutor, Ndina Kaitungwa, informed the court that police still need more time to conduct the investigation as a photo plan, laboratory tests and minor additional witness statements are still outstanding.
Arndt is represented by Linus Samaria, Afrikaner by Lizzetta Meyer and Christiaan by Florian Beukes.
The trio remain in custody at the Namibian Police Force holding cells at Keetmanshoop, after they were denied bail during their first court appearance on 05 February citing that investigations were still at an early stage.
The three are charged with two counts of murder, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of ammunition, theft of a motor vehicle and housebreaking with intent to rob.
Arndt faces an additional charge of housebreaking with intent to steal. – NAMPA
