KEETMANSHOOP, June 6 – Keetmanshoop took the honours at the //Kharas Governor’s Cup-winning both soccer and netball in the finals in the southern town on Sunday.
Keetmanshoop Urban won the netball by beating Luderitz 39 – 18. In the soccer,
Keetmanshoop Rural took the winning spot with 3 – 1 against Karasberg East.
The cup was hosted at the J Stephanus Stadium in the Lemon Turn location from Friday until Sunday
Captain and goalkeeper of the winning soccer team, Nelly Rooi, was full of praise for the Keetmanshoop Rural side: “We did not practise together as a team, only played on the field together but we made it”.
He encouraged young boys to concentrate on school.
“This was a really great experience for me although we did not win the game I learned a lot this weekend,” a netball player from Luderitz shared.
The players who made it to the //Kharas regional team that will play in The Namibian Newspaper Cup later in August in Oshakati will be announced at a later stage by the governor, Aletha Frederick.
