OTJIWARONGO, 16 MAR – Tsumeb Police Station Commander, Chief Inspector Bernhard Nghuulivali on Friday appeared in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and defeating the course of justice.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) head of media relations, Chief Inspector Kaunapawa Shikwambi confirmed the arrest and court appearance of Nghuulivali to Nampa on Friday afternoon.
It is alleged that Nghuulivali shot and killed a child with a service firearm in Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region in December 2017.
He then allegedly fled the scene in his private pickup vehicle.
Police investigations were launched at Tsumeb, and findings linked Nghuulivali to the murder.
Shikwambi said Nghuulivali was arrested on Thursday.
His case was postponed to 19 March 2018 for further police investigations and to allow him to engage a private lawyer.
Shikwambi encouraged the public to report all types of crimes committed by any person to the police, whose mandate is to serve the nation, maintain law and order and to investigate alleged offences.
“The public must know that Namibian laws are applicable to everyone, including police officers, because no one is above the law,” she said.
