OTJIWARONGO, 26 JUNE – A 37-year-old man succumbed to a gunshot wound Monday in a Windhoek private hospital he was transferred to after allegedly being shot in the chest by another man on Sunday at Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa Region.
The deceased has been identified as Mingeri Tjoheua and his close relatives have been informed of his death.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa that a 50-year-old suspect, Onesmus Mwatile, employed by the Ministry of Works and Transport at Okakarara, has been arrested and appeared Tuesday in court on a charge of murder.
His case was postponed to 13 August 2018 for further police investigations and also to allow him time to acquire the legal services of a private lawyer.
Mwatile was remanded in custody.
It is alleged the two men were seen on Sunday night at about 21h48 arguing over a jackpot inside a bar at Okakarara.
Mwatile allegedly went outside the bar and the deceased followed him.
“It was during that time outside the bar that the suspect had pulled out a private pistol and shot the deceased once in the chest, injuring him,” said Mbeha.
Tjoheua was taken to the Okakarara State Hospital shortly after the incident and later transferred to the private hospital in Windhoek where he died.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
