Oshana Region to host first NPC scouting and training sessions

WINDHOEK, 21 JUL  – The Namibia Paralympic Committee (NPC) will host scouting sessions for athletes with disabilities in the Oshana, //Kharas and Zambezi regions this year.
The first session will take place at the Eluwa Special School in Ongwediva on 26 and 27 July to identify female athletes between the ages of 13 and 26.
NPC Secretary-General Michael Hamukwaya in a media statement on Thursday said the session on 26 July will take place from 14h30 until 18h00. The times for the Friday session will be communicated to the athletes.
“The NPC athletics would like to invite all female athletes with disabilities, such as wheelchair users and those who are visually impaired or have physical impairments between the age of 13 years to 26 years to come and take part in this training programme free of charge,” Hamukwaya said.
He said the training and scouting session will give female athletes the chance to showcase their abilities and the opportunity to obtain training from para-athletics experts.
“It will also allow more female athletes to be selected for Namibia’s para-athletics national team for the All Africa Games, the International Paralympic Committee World Athletics Championship and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games,” Hamukwaya said.
The programme is made possible through a partnership between the NPC, the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service’s Directorate of Sport and Coca-Cola Namibia.
The second and third sessions in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region and Keetmanshoop in //Kharas will take place next month.
