Oshana NamPol investigates deadly road crashes

OSHAKATI, 23 Apr – Two pedestrians were bumped to death in separate incidents in the Oshana Region on Saturday.
Sergeant Frieda Shikole-Ashiyana of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Oshana confirmed the accidents to Nampa on Monday, saying the pedestrians were run over while crossing the respective roads at night.
Shikole-Ashiyana said Angolan national Petrus Shikongo was run over on the Ongwediva-Ondangwa main road at Omaalala village’s Omusati Gopoosa informal settlement at around 21h25.
Shikongo, 20, was from the Omongwa village in southern Angola and was employed as a cattle herder at Omaalala.
Shikole-Ashiyana pointed out that Shikongo died instantly after being hit by a Toyota pick-up with a personalised registration number.
In the other death, 43-year-old Ekandjo Eliader Shishiveni also died instantly after a white sedan ran him over while he was crossing the Oshakati-Okahao main road at the Oniimwandi village at around 23h00.
The next of kin of both deceased persons were informed and investigations continue.
