RUNDU, 02 JUL – A 20-year-old man was arrested by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Rundu on Sunday for allegedly killing his mother, grandmother and three nephews.
NamPol’s Regional Crime Coordinator for Kavango East, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu confirmed to Nampa on Sunday that the suspect was tracked down by the police after allegedly committing the gruesome murders in the early hours of Sunday.
He said the victim’s name could not be released as their next of kin were not informed and the suspect is yet expected to appear in the Magistrate’s Court here on Monday.
According to an eye-witness when this agency visited the house of the deceased, the suspect first assaulted his sister with a log in the head on Saturday, injuring her in the process.
When family members went to report the incident to the police, they were informed that there was no transport for the police to attend to the case.
The suspect then allegedly used an axe to commit the five murders in the early hours of Sunday.
Kanyetu could, however, not confirm the object used to commit the murders.
