WINDHOEK, 20 APR – The body of an unidentified woman was found floating in the Goreangab Dam in Windhoek Thursday night.
The Head of Media Relations at the Namibian Police Force, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi told Nampa on Friday it was discovered by a community member from Greenwell Matongo.
“The body was retrieved from the dam Friday morning by members of the Special Field Force,” she said.
There are no other details available on what could have led to the incident and police investigations continue.
Shikwambi appealed to anyone missing a family member to visit the Windhoek police mortuary in helping to identify the deceased woman.
Councillor of the Samora Machel Constituency, Fanuel Shivute said in an interview with this news agency he is not aware of any reports of missing persons in his constituency.
He also said there is a huge pipe in the same area that community members, including children, use as a shortcut.
“People have been told many times not to use that path because it is very dangerous, however they continue to use it,” said Shivute.
He noted that the City of Windhoek was informed before his term in office in 2015 to fence off the area or put alternative safety measures in place.
