WINDHOEK, 21 APR – The woman who stands accused of causing the death of a three-year-old boy in the Kunene Region, was denied bail when she appeared in the Opuwo Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Magistrate Jorina Jagger postponed the case of Veriama Uaroua, 34, to 13 June for the accused to obtain legal representation and for police investigations to be completed.
State Prosecutor Aubrey Ndlovu told Nampa the State opposed bail because of the seriousness of the matter.
“A post-mortem is still to be carried out on the body of the deceased to determine the exact cause of death,” Ndlovu said.
It is alleged that Uaroua hit Penaete Muundjua repeatedly with a stick for climbing a tree next to their house at Otjomukandi village on Wednesday.
The boy then apparently started crying and walked away.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator in Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu said the boy started to breathe abnormally and died.
