WINDHOEK, Jan 25. – Africa’s most prominent boxing promoter Nestor Tobias, believes that progression requires setting attainable goals, and a simple approach of being positive on a daily basis: “Tomorrow must be better than today.”
Speaking to Namibia Daily News , Tobias indicated that any plan for positive progression, be it individual or plural, required an attitude that fosters and maintains growth.
He pointed out that since the conception of his boxing academy in 2000 (now popularly known as MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy), every single year had been an improvement from the last.
“I appreciate my staff, my boxers and the efforts that we are putting as a whole. My purpose and dream is to be better than today, and we work hard for that. This year 2018, will be an exciting year,” he said.
Tobias added that in order for an individual to achieve their goals, that party needed to work hard, sacrifice and keep their eyes on the prize.
“My growing up was an education for me to understand life better. When I began to understand boxing, I evolved into a manager, then to a coach, then promoter. Look, it doesn’t matter how good a boxer is; he/she must put in effort and invest a lot of time in order to realise his/her true potential.”
He also believes that poverty and hunger are not selective, and that whenever or whichever way they manifest themselves, they impact lives in a similar manner, regardless if the target is from a rich or poor background.
“If your kid doesn’t have bread at home, it is the same feeling that my kid feels when there is no bread at home. The effects of life are the same, and it doesn’t matter where you come from! In order to improve these kids lives, we have to invest and make them focus on something productive, something they enjoy, and that can change their lives,” he concluded. – Musa Zimunya
