Suburbs beat Kudus to consolidate top four position

WINDHOEK, 30 June 2018  – Western Suburbs consolidated their top four position on the log by beating closest rivals Kudus Rugby Club by 51-21 at Suburbs Park on Saturday.

Double try scorer Nikin Cloete opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute which was converted by captain and Fly-half, Justin Nel.

From there, the floodgates opened as four-try scorer, Dumarcho Hurting, joined in for another early try in the fifth minute which Nel converted.

The skipper then joined in the fun, slicing through the Kudus team for a great solo try which he converted in the eighth minute.

Llyod Jacobs then converted a penalty for the visiting side as they looked at chasing the game but Cloete scored his second of the day.

Kudus replied with their own try through Antony Jevu and Jacobs converted.

With Suburbs seemingly running away with the game, they were dealt a major blow when Valombola Kamboo was shown a red card for a high tackle on Jacobs just before halftime.

The halftime scoreline was 28-10 in Suburbs’ favour.

The second half started like the first, with Hurting scoring within minutes of the kick-off and Nel failed to convert.

The speedy Suburbs winger then added two more tries with Nel missing one conversion while Russel van Wyk converted the other.

Kudus substitute Anthoney Hoebeb seemed to bring hopes of a bonus point for his team with two quick tries which were duly converted by Jacobs but it was too late for one more try.

Nel then converted two penalties for his side to lead them to a convincing victory.

Abraham Farmer, the Kudus coach paid tribute to Suburbs but maintained belief that his side will participate in the semi-finals.

“We will make sure we beat Falcons by more than five tries in our next match and hope Suburbs lose so that we can play in the semis,” he said.

Shaun Kaizemi, Suburbs’ coach was full of praise for his side, saying they started off very well, but lost momentum at the end of the game.

“We are going to Rehoboth in the three weeks’ time and we will go out to win that match so as to maintain our positon for the top four finish. Rehoboth beat us here at home so we are going to make sure that we win that match,” he said.
