BERLIN, 30 JUN – Namibian athletes Johannes Nambala and Bradley Murere won a silver and bronze medal for Namibia respectively at the 2018 world International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Berlin Grand Prix.
Nambala won silver in the 100 metre (m) T13 category in a time of 11.12 seconds, while Murere won a bronze in the 100m T46 category with a time of 11.98 seconds.
Stirley Jones of the United States of America beat Nambala for the gold with a time of 10.81 seconds.
In the T46 category, the young Namibian, Murere lost out on the gold and silver from veteran athletes Yohans Nascimento of Brazil and Danas Sodaitis of Lithuania who came first and second respectively.
Nambala told Nampa after the event that he was happy with his run but hopes to improve the colour of his medal in the 400m.
“My favourite event the 400m is still coming up and I hope I will manage to win a gold medal when I compete in that event,” he said.
The 2018 world IPC Berlin Grand Prix is being held at the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Sportpark with 41 countries competing at the two-day championships.
In 2016, team Namibia won 14 medals at the same championships which were nine gold, three silver and two bronze.
