WINDHOEK, DECEMBER 12 | |Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, officially inaugurated the newly appointed members of the Game Product Trust Fund (GPTF) Board on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
The new board members, who will serve from November 1, 2024, to October 30, 2027, include:
1. Mr. Colgar Sikopo
2. Ms. Mclesia Mbaisa
3. Ms. Doreen Saisai
4. Mr. Kandiwapa Amwele
5. Mr. Thomas Muronga
The board was appointed in accordance with the Game Product Trust Fund Act of 1997 (Act No. 7 of 1997), which mandates the board to manage and control the Fund.
In a statement released following the inauguration, it was highlighted that the GPTF plays a crucial role in supporting the conservation and sustainable management of Namibia’s wildlife resources, while also promoting rural development across the country.
In his address, Shifeta underscored the importance of the board’s mandate, stating, “The Game Product Trust Fund is a vital tool in ensuring the conservation of our wildlife heritage and the sustainable development of our rural communities. Through the guidance of this board, we can achieve equitable and effective resource management.”
The GPTF Board will oversee the administration of financial resources dedicated to wildlife conservation initiatives, along with addressing any matters that arise within its mandate.
Shifeta urged the new board members to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and dedication in their work. “As custodians of this Fund, you are entrusted with safeguarding Namibia’s wildlife for future generations, while ensuring that communities directly benefit from these invaluable resources,” he emphasized. – Namibia Daily News
