WINDHOEK, June 21 — The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has agreed to form centers of excellency in a bid to strengthen the study of science and strengthening of education system, Namibian minister of education said Friday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the SADC ministers of education and science in Windhoek, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa encouraged member states to share good practices in improving technical education.
“Namibia has successfully implemented a training levy to develop technical education. We encourage other member states to collaborate and do the same in the promotion of education, ” she said.
She added that education and training will play a key role in driving the fourth industrial revolution for SADC member states.
Hanse-Himarwa added that SADC must play a pivotal role in research and technology implementation in improving the standards of education in the region.
Hanse-Himarwa also re-affirmed the SADC region’s commitment to accelerate implementation of processes that develop education in the region. – XINHUA
