KEETMANSHOOP, 01 SEP – Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) employees at Keetmanshoop, on Friday joined colleagues countrywide to demand a salary increment with immediate effect.
Protesting under the Namibia Public Workers Union (Napwu), the employees staged a peaceful lunchtime demonstration outside the company premises here, where they handed over a petition to the Acting Business Unit Manager at the //Kharas Region Business Unit, Japie Mostrat.
The petition was read and handed over by Napwu Luderitz branch organiser, Edwin Shake.
In their petition, the employees demanded that management adhere to the Human Resources (HR) Policy of the company, adding that management should be consistent with the recruitment process.
“Workers demand that promotion and appointment not in compliance with HR Policy must be stooped, HR policy guidelines should be adhered to at all times,” reads the petition.
They are also demanding that the company’s proposed new structure be put on hold until such time that correct procedures are followed and the process is guided by transparency, fairness and mutual trust.
“All new appointments based on the so-called new structure must be nullified and all employees must remain in their old positions as per the existing structure until the proposed structure is properly finalised and approved to prevent unnecessary labour cases,” the petition reads.
The employees demanded the same percentage salary incremet across the board for performance bonuses and said that management should stop the current inconsistency practice to ensure equity.
Upon receiving the petition, Mostat said he is receiving the petition on behave of the NamWater //Kharas business unit management.
