WINDHOEK, 17 APR. – The trial of a local businessman who stands accused of shooting and killing a woman at a bar in Katutura in April 2013, will begin in the High Court here next month.
The prominent Windhoek-based businessman, Sakaria ‘Sacky’ Mathias allegedly shot and killed the 24-year-old Charmain Fredericks.
The 57-year-old businessman is also facing second charge of attempted murder when he alleged threatened to shoot and kill State witness Patrick Auala at the time of the incident.
Mathias’ murder and attempted murder trial begins on 16 May 2018 and is set to run until 24 May 2018.
The businessman made another appearance before Windhoek High Court Judge Naomi Shivute during a pre-trial conference of case management review on Tuesday when the date for the start of his trial was decided.
This was done as per an agreement reached by State Advocate Palmer Khumalo and the accused’s government-funded defence lawyer, Trevor Brockerhoff.
Mathias allegedly shot and killed the woman out of jealousy after he found her in the company of another man at the bar.
It is alleged that Mathias and the deceased were in a romantic relationship at the time of the incident.
He is free on bail on of N.dollars 10 000 and his bail was on Tuesday extended until the start of his trial.
