KEETMANSHOOP, 06 JUL– The Berseba Goat Expo is a platform established to create opportunities for communities to fight poverty, lack of income and unemployment, Berseba Constituency Councillor, Dawid Boois has said.
He made these remarks at the official opening of the second goat expo on Thursday in Berseba, held under the theme ‘New path to sustainable socio-economic development’.
“Poverty is a manmade, historical evil that is nowadays glorified by common use of the word itself ‘poverty’, in politics it relates to less fortunate members of our society as it works against human dignity and self-respect of ourselves,” he said.
According to Boois, the expo was created by the Berseba Village Council and the Berseba Constituency Office to produce a platform for rural and pre-urban communities in the Berseba Constituency, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), informal employment or the self-employment sector. These include those traditionally gifted in handiworks and farmers, to exhibit their products and services, as well as to promote public-private partnership (PPP) in order to strengthen the different sectors for employment reaction and local economic growth.
“God created man and women in wealth for sustenance and provided them with wisdom to manage resources in the interest of present and coming generations and this wealth include land, water, fish and mineral resources, wildlife, livestock and many more,” he said.
Boois added that not all people have access to these resources equally, many times because of distribution challenges, which is unfair.
“But we have goats accessible to many in our farming sector which we consider as our backbone towards the food security chain and socio-economic development of our communities,” he concluded.
