Khomas Second Division League Cup slated for this weekend

REHOBOTH, 06 JUL  – Teams in the Khomas Second Division are gearing up for the division’s season ending tournament to be played at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek this weekend.
The 14 teams will battle it out to see who is king of knock-out football in the division.
Chairperson of the league, Dawid Morgan told Nampa on Thursday the tournament is a way of thanking the teams for their hard work throughout the season.
“The tournament has no entrance fee as we are giving the teams a chance to win something to brag about. I believe the competition will be fierce among the teams. We have set out N.dollars 20 000 for the tournament, with half going to the teams and the other half for logistics like referee payment, security and stadium booking,” he said.
Morgan called on local companies to sponsor the tournament.
“We struggle to have league tournaments for the teams and I am calling on our business people to come on board and assist us,” he said.
The draw pitted Namib Eagles Football Club against league runners-up Swallows Football Academy in the first game at 08h00, followed by league champions, Eleven Champions against Namibia University of Science and Technology at 09h25.
City Boys will confront Okahandja’s Kingston United at 10h45, while Namib Colts will face Afrika Rassap at 12h15.
Impala Chiefs and Golden Rivers will battle each other at 13h40, followed by a confrontation between Java Java and Rockstones at 15h05.
Young Ones will face Falcon at 16h20.
The first quarter-final will start at 17h45 between the winner of the first match and the winner of match seven, followed by another quarter-final match between the winner of the second match facing the third match winners at 19h15.
The last quarter-final, two semi-finals and the final will take place on Sunday, with the first match starting at 09h00 and the final to be played at 15h00.
The winners will receive N.dollars 5 000, while the losing finalist will walk away with N.dollars 3 000.
Both semi-final losers will receive N.dollars 1 000 each.
