Warmbad, Jan 7 — On Friday, January 3, 2025, at approximately 14:55, a white Ford Bantam bakkie overturned on the M0021 gravel road, about 10 kilometers from Warmbad. The vehicle, en route from Karasburg to Warmbad, lost control and flipped.
The accident left six occupants, including the 22-year-old driver, with minor to serious injuries. The injured were treated by a local nurse and later transported to Karasburg State Hospital for further medical attention.
While inspecting the overturned vehicle, police discovered 20 bankies of cannabis (skunk), suspected to have been thrown from the vehicle by the driver upon noticing a nearby police checkpoint. During questioning, one of the passengers confirmed the cannabis belonged to the driver and that he had attempted to discard it before losing control of the vehicle.
A case of dealing in prohibited dependence-producing drugs has been opened against the driver. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will face charges for both reckless driving and drug-related offenses.
