WINDHOEK, 29 AUG – The Popular Democratic Movement Youth League (PDMYL) has condemned the brutal killing of nine-year-old Cheryl Avihe Ujaha, whose lifeless body was found mutilated, boiled, beheaded and discarded in a riverbed near Staanvas circle in Khomasdal.
Ujaha was reported missing on Saturday before her body was found on Tuesday, with her remains seemingly burnt, mutilated, with the arms, head and legs cut off, while internal organs were also removed.
In statement issued late Tuesday evening, PDMYL secretary general, Benson Katjirijova expressed shock in the killing of the nine-year-old third grade learner.
“The late Cheryl Ujaha was a learner at Gammams Primary School and just like any other child, she had dreams of finishing school and to become a prominent member of society, particularly a school principal. Her dreams and aspirations have indeed now been stopped in their tracks in the most gruesome manner imaginable,” Katjirijova stated.
The youth leader further condemned the continued onslaught of women and young girls, something that he believes cannot end soon, unless drastic measures are taken.
“The murder of young Cheryl is particularly sickening because not only was she abducted and murdered, but she was also subjected to the most inhumane treatment from a fellow human being or beings,” Katjirijova lamented.
PDMYL then called on Government to rapidly implement measures that tighten laws pertaining to the operations of traditional healers and radical churches.
“The circumstances surrounding young Cheryl’s murder suggest that it was motivated by a cultist or ritualistic agenda,” he charged.
Ujaha’s death was confirmed by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Deputy Commissioner Abner Agas at the site where the body was found. – NAMPA
