Canadian High Commissioner pays courtesy visit to President Geingob

WINDHOEK, 20 JUL  – Sandra McCardell, the High Commissioner of Canada to Namibia paid a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob at State House on Thursday.
Speaking at the occasion, McCardell, who is based in Pretoria, South Africa said the visit is to share outcomes of Canada’s 2018 G7 Summit held in June this year.
She emphasised that Namibia and Canada share common themes that were discussed at the summit in terms of development such as creating economic growth, climate change and promoting women’s rights and empowerment as well as the importance of peace and security in the world.
“Many of the things President Hage Geingob is undertaking in Namibia, Canada is very much in line with those views and form part of the G7 agenda, especially in ensuring that economic growth does not only benefit the wealthy or the privileged, but should include everyone in society,” said McCardell.
She further noted that Canada continues to be a very significant partner to Namibia as it has invested about U.S. dollar 1.5 billion through the mining and energy sectors.
“Through our companies, jobs were created and we strive to be responsible corporate citizens to Namibia,” she added.
At the same occasion, President Geingob shared the same sentiments that Canadian companies in Namibia are doing well and that they obey to local trading rules, in terms of meeting local priorities and ensuring corporate social responsibilities as well as providing conducive working environments.
“I am very happy that Canada keeps considering Namibia in terms of common goals,” said Geingob.
