Bulgaria seizes 3 kg of cocaine near its border with Serbia

SOFIA, March 26– Bulgarian law enforcement officers have seized three kilograms of cocaine at the Kalotina checkpoint near the country’s border with Serbia, authorities said here on Tuesday.
The illicit drug, packaged in 148 polyethylene bags, was found on Friday in a bus traveling from Sofia to the Portuguese capital Lisbon, said the National Customs Agency (NCA), the Ministry of Interior and the National Prosecutor’s Office in a joint statement.
The bags were hidden in the lining of four jackets that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old Bulgarian citizen, carried in his suitcase, the statement said.
The man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking, it said.
The investigation is ongoing.
In 2017, the NCA seized a total of 36.37 kg of cocaine in seven cases. – XINHUA
