WINDHOEK, Sept. 2 — Thirty-three learners from Maria Mwengere Secondary School in Rundu, northeastern Namibia, were hospitalized following a suspected food-related illness at the school hostel, said the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture on Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry said the cases were reported between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, adding that 22 of the affected learners have since been discharged after receiving treatment, with 11 others remaining under medical care.
Preliminary feedback from learners suggested that some food items served at the hostel may have contributed to the illness, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, it has deployed health inspectors to the school in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services to carry out a thorough investigation, while the school has also been instructed to provide recent menu records to assist the probe. It said further updates will be provided once investigations yield conclusive findings. (Xinhua)
