WINDHOEK, July -- Former President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Namibia's second Prime Minister, Theo-Ben Gurirab, was laid to rest on Saturday at the National Heroes Acre, just outside the capital Windhoek.
Gurirab, who was also the Southwest African nation founding Foreign Affairs Minister, died last Saturday at the age of 80.
Namibian President Hage Geingob told mourners that it is difficult to bid farewell to a diplomat, who effortlessly carried everyone's weight on his shoulders.
"We thank him for his patriotism, passion and hard work. May the memory of this giant of a man, echo forever. Farewell dear comrade, may your soul rest in eternal peace," Geingob said at the Heroes Acre on Saturday.
The late Gurirab served as president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union between 2008 and 2011.Xihnua
