LUSAKA, FEB 14 — Zambia’s security agencies arrested on Wednesday a former air force commander over criminal activities.
Eric Chimese, who was fired as Zambia Air Force commander last year, has been arrested and jointly charged with a businessman with four counts including concealing property, giving false information, power abuse and possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The Drug Enforcement Commission said the offenses are believed to have been committed between Jan. 1 2018 and 31 Jan. 2019. The accused will appear in court soon.
The anti-drug authorities have since seized properties which include 13 fully furnished houses, one semidetached house and a gym all situated in Lusaka, the country’s capital.
President Edgar Lungu has warned officials in his government that he will not protect anyone arrested over
corruption charges.
However, the Zambian leader has come under attack for lack of commitment to fighting corruption after he refused to fire a minister who was arrested recently for corrupt practices. – XINHUA
