OSHAKATI, 23 May 2022 – A 62-year-old female pensioner was robbed of N$10 000 on Friday at around 13h00 at Omatando close to Joseph Mbangula Primary School in Ongwediva.
Oshana police spokesperson, Thomas Aiyambo, said it’s alleged the complainant, from Omayanga village, went to Oshana Mall around 10h00 and withdrew N$10 000 inside Bank Windhoek before heading to Pick n’ Pay to shop. Afterward, she took a taxi from Oshana Mall to Chicco Mall and when she got out of the taxi she left her plastic bags with the vendors selling at the Chicco Mall parking.
When she came out after shopping at Choppies, there was an unknown man looking for customers to be transported. He approached the complainant, asked her where she was headed, and agreed to drop her at home at Omayanga-Okatana as she requested. They loaded the goods she had left with the vendors and set off. At that time there were only two people in the vehicle. As they drove off from Chicco Mall, in the direction of Omatando road, they picked up two men apparently wanting a lift to Onamutai, but the driver agreed to take the complainant home first before dropping off the other two.
As they approached Joseph Mbangula Primary School, the driver pulled off pretending to be picking up something at a house close to the road. Before they drove off the man who was seated close to the complainant grabbed her bag, and the other two (the driver and second man) also then jumped on her and grabbed her throat, and demanded she surrenders all her belongings including her handbag. They then pushed her out of the white Toyota Corolla Sedan vehicle before speeding off.
The complainant could not recall the number plate but can identify the driver who is one of the suspects in this case.
The culprits managed to get away with groceries worth N$500 and a cash amount of N$ 10 000.
There have been no arrests so far but the vendors at Choppies are able to identify the driver since he is regular at the mall, said Aiyambo.
Investigation into the matter continues. – Namibia Daily News
