WINDHOEK, 15 Mar. – A 19-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving vehicle on the off-ramp from Independence Avenue to the Western Bypass here on Thursday.
City Police spokesperson, Superintendent Cillie Auala told Nampa on enquiry shortly after the incident the young woman was travelling in a vehicle with her mother, who was taking her to school.
She got out of the car on Independence Avenue and walked towards the Western Bypass.
“It is alleged the girl jumped in front of a moving Land Cruiser which was travelling on the Western Bypass from the south towards the north,” said Auala.
She was declared dead on the spot.
The incident happened around 07h18 and it was not clear whether there had been an argument between the deceased and her mother, the officer said.
Bystanders said the woman appeared to be crying and looked agitated before she jumped in front of the moving car.
The deceased was a learner of the Welwitschia Private School, situated in the Brakwater area some 20 kilometres outside Windhoek.
