GOBABIS, 19 SEP – The police in the Omaheke Region are hot on the trail of suspected armed robbers after they allegedly hit a local grocery shop at Drimiopsis, some 40 kilometres north of Gobabis.
The robbers stormed the shop Tuesday night at an unknown time and ordered everyone to lie down. They allegedly tied up some of the staff in the shop.
They then demanded money and got away with an unspecified amount after they were handed a cash box.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigation coordinator in the Omaheke Region, Deputy Commissioner Chris Kalimbula confirmed the incident to Nampa on Wednesday.
He said information is still sketchy at this stage, although early indication are that the alleged robbers were on foot.
“The colleagues are combing the area for any clues and searching nearby surrounding as well. It is still early but we are hopeful for a breakthrough,” he said.
Drimiopsis is a small settlement that hosts two schools and a clinic, amongst others. – NAMPA
