Police arrest suspects with protected wildlife and drugs

WINDHOEK, 23 JUL– Two men were arrested at a service station in Okahandja on Saturday after they were found in possession of controlled wildlife products.
A Namibian Police Force (NamPol) crime report issued on Monday said the suspects, aged 29 and 24, had one live pangolin and two pangolin skins valued at N.dollars 150 000 in their possession.
The men have been charged with possession of and dealing in controlled wildlife products.
The crime report further said members of NamPol’s Drug Law Enforcement in the early hours of Friday arrested four people who were allegedly found with various types of drugs in their possession in Windhoek’s Kleine Kuppe residential area.
“They raided the house of an alleged drug dealer and confiscated skunk, MDMA, LSD, Ecstasy, magic mushrooms, cocaine, Cat (methcathinone), Schedule Five medicines, steroids, needles and other medicines,” it said.
The value of the drugs is estimated to be N.dollars 200 000.
A firearm and ammunition, as well as a cellphone were also onfiscated.
The suspects include a Namibian man, a German woman and two South African men, who were expected to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The suspects were charged with dealing, possession and transportation of drugs, assaulting a police officer by pointing a firearm at him, as well as attempting to escape from lawful custody.
Other charges in terms of the Medicines and Pharmacy Act and Prevention of Organised Crime Act were also added to the charges.
Police investigations continue.
