REHOBOTH, 09 JUN – A case of culpable homicide was opened by the Hardap Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Friday after a vehicle rolled and killed one passenger on the spot and injured several others.
NamPol crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay confirmed the accident and told Nampa on Saturday that it occurred at around 19h45 on Friday evening on the D1066 gravel between Gibeon and Amperbo, approximately 25 kilometres from the settlement.
“It is alleged that a Toyota Hilux single cab pickup, registration number N10151M, which was carrying five passengers and a casket with a corps meant for burial left the road after the right rear tyre burst and it overturned, killing a passenger, who was a pensioner, seriously injuring one and slightly injuring the remaining passengers including the driver,” Clay said.
The injured passengers were rushed to Mariental State Hospital for treatment.
The next of kin of the deceased have not yet been not informed.
Police investigations continue.
