OTJIWARONGO, 17 AUG – A 65-year-old man escaped an attack with head injuries after three suspected robbers stormed his farmhouse in the Outjo District early Wednesday night.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Thursday told Nampa that the farmer, Dedlev Doll was assaulted by the suspects at Farm Ekotoveni around 19h40.
The farm is situated about 25 kilometres northeast of Outjo along the Outjo-Otavi gravel road.
Mbeha said the three men armed with knives were already inside the farmhouse when the pensioner saw them. They allegedly then hit him with a glass on the head and he fell to the ground where they continued to assault him by kicking and dragging him against the wall.
“The farmer sustained deep wounds on his head,” Mbeha said.
The suspects stole a variety of household goods and gadgets, recharge vouchers and some coins they found in the house before fleeing. They were however arrested the same night with the assistance of the farming community who tracked their footprints, according to Mbeha.
Doll was also assisted by neighbouring farmers who took him to the Outjo State Hospital for medical treatment.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court on Monday and police investigations continue.
