WINDHOEK, Oct. 5 — A total of 19 skilled golf players are poised to compete for the prestigious Nedbank for Good Series title at Omeya Golf Club on Friday, October 6, marking the culmination of this year’s edition of the series.
These 19 participants represent the cream of the crop, emerging as the top players from the 10 events that unfolded throughout the year. The series commenced in February at Omeya Golf Club, with Mark Anslow and Leani Engelbrecht securing top honours. It then journeyed to Gobabis in May, where Francois Binneman and Ester van Taak emerged victorious.
June witnessed the series in Oranjemund, where Arno Pienaar and Yolanda Pienaar secured their spots in the final. Tsumeb hosted the next event, with Videlis Hanganda and Ruanda de Beer earning their places. July brought the series to Mariental, where Kiewiet Dreyer and Celonika Robinson triumphed in the male and female categories, respectively.
August proved to be a bustling month, with Oshakati, Walvis Bay, and Swakopmund golf courses hosting top amateur golfers. Antonius Amugongo and Eveline Shilongo clinched the Oshakati round, followed by Weitz van Niekerk and Estelle Bothma in Walvis Bay. Kevin Wentzel and Tiekie de Wet emerged victorious in the Swakopmund round.
In September, Desmond D’Emiljo and Wilna Bredenhann sealed the Henties Bay round, while Heinrich Schmidt and Clarisa Chipfupa brought the Windhoek round to a close, concluding the series preliminaries.
Event organizer Dan Zwiebel expressed readiness for Namibia’s premier amateur golf series. Holding the final at Omeya Golf Club, often referred to as the jewel of Namibia, has facilitated preparations. Zwiebel commended the 45 women who participated in this year’s event for the first time, considering it a significant milestone. He expressed his anticipation for future growth in this regard.
Zwiebel stated, “Every single year, this series keeps on being amazing. I would like to thank every single player who teed it up over the year, every club who generously allowed us to utilize their establishment, all the different committees, and every single person who supported the auctions. Our aim has always been to grow this series from strength to strength.”
Selma Kaulinge, Communications and Public Relations Manager at Nedbank Namibia extended gratitude to the preliminary round winners for their exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the golf series. She expressed excitement about the impending final and the competition for the championship title.
