NKURENKURU, 26 AUG – President Hage Geingob has arrived in Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region for the commemoration of Heroes’ Day.
First Lady Monica Geingos, Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, as well as various Cabinet ministers, are present for the commemoration.
The event is also being attended by former President Sam Nujoma, Speaker of the National Assembly Peter Katjavivi and former First Lady Penexupifo Pohamba.
Heroes Day commemorates the battle of Omugulugwombashe on 26 August 1966, when South African soldiers attacked People’s Liberation Army of Namibia fighters, marking the start of Namibia’s liberation struggle.
