Danish National Police plans to downsize in 2020

   COPENHAGEN, Jan. 13  -- The need to reallocate funds will see Denmark's National Police close approximately 240 positions during 2020, said Jens Henrik Hojbjerg, national commissioner of the Danish Police, in an interview with the newspaper Jyllandsposten published on Monday.
   The savings made on the payroll will partly go towards the budget of the state prosecutor for serious economic and international crime, which receives 45 million Danish krone (6.7 million U.S. dollars) from the National Police in 2020. 
   This corresponds in salary to approximately 90 National Police employees, said Hojbjerg.
   In addition, he said that a further 150 staff positions must be canceled at the National Police and their tasks assigned to the country's 12 police districts.
   The latter part of the saving is needed to finance trainings for police personnel on counter-terrorism, border protection and visible policing, he said.
   The Danish National Police currently employs 9,415 officers.   Xinhau
