CHOTO, KATIMA MULILO, Aug. 22 – At the moment, all roads country wide lead to the Zambezi region for the 6th national congress of Swapo Party Youth League to be held from tomorrow until Sunday in Katima Mulilo.
“I’m so very busy but all is set for us to hold a successful congress starting tomorrow,” said Veikko Nekundi, Acting Secretary of Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) and Chairperson of the Congress speaking to our reporter in Katima Mulilo this afternoon.

According to sources close to SPYL matters, hardworking and current central committee member of SPYL and former chairperson of Oshana Regional Youth Forum Ephraim Tuhandeline Nekongo (30) from the Oshana Region; and well known active SPYL female member from Kayiyira village in Kapako constituency of Kavango West Christine Kasiku Haindaka who is turning 28 years old, are expected to walk in the park and be endorsed as Secretary and Deputy Secretary of SPYL respectively. The congress will be hosted in Kamunu Hall, Sam Nujoma drive in town.

Though unity of young people in the ruling party is expected to prevail this time, sources indicate that Oshikoto region want to nominate from the floor and try push for adamant SPYL Secretary of Health and Environment Sioni Iikela as their preferred candidate of SPYL Secretary, but that seems to be impossible after their group failed to challenge SPYL in High Court recently.
The congress with the theme ” the role of the youth towards sustainable development” is expected also to elect fifty (50) members of Central Committee, fifteen (15) delegates to Swapo Party congress and four (4) candidates to Swapo Party Central committee ends on Sunday. – Robert Maseka
