OTJIWARONGO, 26 JUL – The Otjozondjupa regional consultative meeting held in preparation for the second national land conference scheduled for October this year, started in Otjiwarongo on Thursday.
The meeting, which started Thursday morning, will end on Friday.
In attendance were different traditional leaders from the region, rural and urban residents from as far as Tsumkwe, Omatako, Okondjatu, Okamatapati and Okakarara.
Deputy ministers in the Office of the Prime Minister, Chief Samuel Ankama, and Marginalised Communities Royal /Ui/o/oo, amongst others are also in attendance.
Otjozondjupa Governor, Otto Ipinge officially opened the meeting, motivating residents to express their deepest concerns in connection with land matters affecting them.
“This consultative meeting is a build-up to the upcoming national conference, therefore, speak out your wishes that you want to form part of the main conference in the capital,” he said.
Similar meetings are being conducted in all 14 regions of the country, through the Office of the Prime Minister in collaboration with the Ministry of Land Reform.
The meetings are aimed at consulting residents in all regions on the current land reform programmes and emerging land-related issues.
The Otjozondjupa meeting is expected to formulate resolutions to be tabled at the national land conference in the capital in October.
The first national land conference was held in 1991.
