This coming Sunday at Dordabis in Windhoek, the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power (WPP) Race Series 2023 season gets underway.
200 registered cyclists are expected to compete in the opening event of the six-race series, which begins at 7 a.m., in categories including men’s and women’s teams, individual, and a sports category for beginners.
This year’s Nedbank WPP event, according to Brian Key of the Windhoek Pedal Power Cycling Club, will thrill cyclists.
“It can be considered that the race is relatively less technical, so cyclists will believe it is not intense, but the race route tests each cyclist’s strength and stamina. Since riders have just returned from the holiday season, when they had plenty of time to train and get ready for the first event of the year, we anticipate them to be focused and energized for this competition.
To all local riders, the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Series is available. Key said that joining the Windhoek Pedal Power Cycling Club is a must for cyclists who want to compete in the race series. An adult annual membership is N$ 525, a junior annual membership costs N$ 315, and a family membership costs N$ 1050. He noted that
All ages of cyclists are welcome to join the group. However, there is a choice for cyclists who only want to compete in the races and don’t want to join the club. Cyclists who want to take part in the series without joining the club must pay N$ 200 per participant for each race. Bicyclists who are interested in learning more can get in touch with us,” Key said.
Three cycling competitions will be held by Nedbank Namibia in the first two months of 2023, the first of which is the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series. Selma Kaulinge, Manager of Communications and PR at Nedbank Namibia, elaborated on the bank’s support for cycling.
“It is already all systems go on our cycling calendar, and we are excited for yet another season of cycling. Nedbank Namibia’s contribution to cycling continues to positively influence the growth of the sport in our country, and the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series are a testament to that commitment. We will be having back-to-back cycling events in the coming weeks starting with the Nedbank WPP race 1 this coming Sunday, followed by The Namibian National Time Trials on Friday, 27 January, the Namibian National Road Cycling Championships on Sunday, 29 January, the Nedbank WPP race 2 at Dobra Loops on Sunday 5 February, and finally, on Sunday, 12 February, we will once again host the Nedbank Cycle Challenge race, which has been dubbed “the greatest ride under the sun”. Kaulinge mentioned.
