Namibia inaugurates new headquarters building of home affairs ministry

WINDHOEK, Nov. 18 — Namibian President Hage Geingob on Thursday inaugurated the country’s new state-of-the-art Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security headquarters in the capital, Windhoek.
The headquarters which was constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation in a joint venture with a Namibian firm, Oshilongo Investment and Construction Company, is one of the largest commercial office building projects in Namibia where more than 400 local employees worked on-site during the project’s peak time.
Speaking at the official inauguration on Thursday morning, Geingob said as Namibia continues with the process of nation-building, with every new infrastructure project, the government is laying a foundation for a future defined by continued development, peace, safety, and prosperity.
“When I say that the Namibia of today is miles apart from pre-independence, you need to look at Windhoek’s skyline to notice the difference. New buildings and new highways define the new Namibia in which we are trying to create a society defined by common identity, harmony, patriotism, and unity,” he said.
Named after the former second president and the first home affairs minister Hifikepunye Pohamba after the country’s independence in 1990, the new headquarters is expected to play a significant role in digitizing records and data.  (Xinhua)
