WINDHOEK, 13 MAY (NAMPA) – Khomas won the final of the under-17 boys football at the National Youth Games that ended on Saturday at the Independence Stadium.
Khomas and Erongo beat their opponents on penalties in the semifinals to become finalists of the competition which was hosted for the first time ever.
In the final, the two gave it their all in one of the most exciting matches of the championship that was watched by athletes from all 14 regions present and a number of sports ministry officials and other dignitaries.
Despite a number of scoring chances that was created by both teams, the nail biting encounter ended goalless.
After over nine penalty kicks by both teams Khomas came out victorious, and became the first champions of this youth competition.
Over 1 800 athletes participated in football, athletics, basketball, boxing, judo, netball, swimming, tennis and volleyball plus stood a chance to be selected for the national U20 team that will represent the country at the 2018 Region Five Games that will be hosted in Botswana in December.
